Sunshine Stars Beat Akure City, Retain Ondo FA Cup

 

Akure, June 15,2022 (NAN) Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure on Wednesday defeated Akure City Academy to win the 2022 edition of Ondo State FA Cup.

 

The FA Cup Final played at the Ondo State Sports Complex,Akure ended 2-1 in favour of Sunshine Stars.

 

The first half of the encounter ended goalless, with the first goal of the encounter being scored by Sunshine Stars Midfielder, Azeez Ajagbe in the 65th minute to make it 1-0.

 

Sunshine Stars Captain, Abe Sunday scored a free kick from the edge of the box to make it 2-0 in the 90th minute to make it before penalty was awarded to the Akure City Academy after an infringement in the Sunshine Stars area.

 

The resulting penalty was converted by Alade Abas to make it 2-1 in the 93rd minute.

 

The Chairman of Ondo State FA, Otunba Dele Ajayi in his remarks said the football association was working assiduously to ensure football was developed at all levels in the state.

 

Ajayi said teams should register for the upcoming Ondo State Bet9ja league as the team that wins the tournament bwould be registered for the Nationwide League One (NLO).

 

The Chairman urged fans and supporters of Sunshine Stars to continue with their good behaviour as they would be rewarded by the end of the season.

 

“Sensitisation has begun for Ondo State Bet9ja league. We urge club owners to register for the league as the winner will represent Ondo State in the NLO.

 

“We are working assiduously to ensure that football is being developed at all the nooks and crannies of Ondo State.We will soon have have a beffiting governors cup, we are talking to sponsors,” he said.

 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sunshine Stars and Akure City will represent Ondo State at the Aiteo Cup
