Reconvene Now and Impeach Buhari Over Ilegal Removal of CJN, CUPP Urges NASS

Opposition political parties have asked the Senate to reconvene immediately and begin impeachment move against  President Muhammadu Buhari for suspending the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen without due process.

The first national spokesman of the Coalition of United Political Parties, Imo Ugochinyere, said this in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja.

According to the Punch Newspaper, Ugochinyere said, “The Senate should reconvene now and start impeachment process against the President for acting against the provision of the Constitution he swore to uphold.

“A man who rode to power on the basis of respect for the rule law and fundamental principles of democracy has chosen to play to the gallery of dictatorship to rig elections.  Let’s see how it goes,” he said.

It could be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari few hours ago suspended the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, and named Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammed as acting Chief Judge of the federation – an action that has generated public outcry by well meaning Nigerians, many describing the president’s action as unconstitutional.

meanwhile, the Presidential candidate of the People’s  Democratic Party, (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, is set to address a world press conference over the sacking of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The press conference, according to sources close to the former Vice President, will hold this evening.
