Marriage is not compulsory, single-hood is not a sin — RCCG Pastor

The Assistant Regional Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, (RCCG) Region 22, and the head of Ondo Province 4, Pastor Amos Tugbobo, has said that marriage is not compulsory and that single-hood is not a sin.

Starnews Nigeria reports that he made this comment on Saturday while delivering a lecture on “Marriage and its contemporary challenges” during pastors and ministers’ training at the provincial headquarters, RCCG Ondo 4, in Akure, the Ondo State Capital.

He said God instituted marriage and does not permit divorce except where Moses recommended a bill of divorce for certain reasons, saying it is better to be patient than to rush into marriage and later rush out of marriage, adding however that having delays in marriage or not getting married at all is better and approved of God than getting married to divorce later.

“I know of a female school principal who has many suitors but refused to get married to any of them. When I met her to know why she is not getting married even though she is not getting younger, she told me she is married to God and that God has told her not to marry because she is married to Him (God) and she was very happy about her decision.”

“It may look strange to many of you but it is allowed. God approved of it. Jesus has opened our understanding in Mathew 19:10-12 to know that single-hood is not a sin and marriage is not compulsory”, he said.

Quoting from Mathew 19:8, he added that it wasn’t God’s intention from the beginning that people should get married and later divorced. He said one of the greatest things in a marriage is for the couples to live together in peace and enjoy their marriage.

He spoke against domestic violence in marriage and advised that people should have physical and spiritual maturity, age and financial maturity, educational and emotional maturity, and sociological and chronological maturity before going into marriage.

He stressed that the marriage foundation should be built on Christ the Solid Rock while explaining the need for marriage, the causes of marital failure, and how to mitigate broken marriages.
