Oba Akinolu And His Unbridled Meddlesomeness In Politics

By Adeyemi Ogungbemi

Wisdom has it that an elder must always be met sitting on the seat of honour at all time. What becomes a royal stool that is coveted by every discernible mind when caution is thrown into the air?

The traditional institution that stood tall in days of yore are incontrovertibly becoming a thing of royal ridicule in this current generation.

The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu has  overtime proved he’s not a father of all with his unbridled meddlesomeness into the affairs of the ruling party (APC) in Lagos.

In a country where multiple party system are operated, our exalted royal stool must live above board, embrace all political parties and remain unpartisan .

Unfortunately, the case isn’t so with our somewhat seemingly cowed King. His recent unguarded outburst which had drawn the ire of all saner mind had kept tongue wagging. Of course, a king can praise an administration based on her obvious achievements but that must be done with abruot sanctity and civility.

Checking and double checking the statement credited to Oba Akinolu of Lagos State on various print media only revealed one thing, that, one time revered King is now a tool in the hands of a political party.

It’s high time, Oba Akinolu, the retired police officer, gone on royal tutelage from other Yoruba Obas and inadvertently steer clear of societal politics so that our traditional institution will remain sacred and not drag into the murky waters of politics.
