LASG warns against indescrminate construction on Regional Road, Lekki

Lagos State Government has warned against uncoordinated physical developments on the alignments of its Regional Road in Lekki.

This state Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Idris Salako, gave the warning in a statement signed by the ministry’s spokesman, Mr Mukaila Sanusi on Thursday in Lagos.

Salako had, during a routine visit to the project site, ordered the immediate suspension of new constructions around Shapatta, near Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lekki.

He noted with dissatisfaction, the rate at which illegal and haphazard construction works were ongoing on Harrison Drive, Shapatta, behind VGC on the Regional Road project alignment.

He said that developers had continued to take undue advantage of the project to build indiscriminately on the axis.

He warned that such buildings were “capable of causing blindness from the onset”.

Salako said that the state’s Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law, 2019 (as amended) would be invoked against all illegal constructions on the axis.

The commissioner ordered that all unapproved physical developments in the area should be regularised with the ministry within 14 days.

He subsequently issued a suspension order on fresh physical developments in the area.

The official urged prompt compliance with the state government’s directive.

“Government will not hesitate to remove any unwarranted developments,” he added.
