LekkiGenocide: Olafeso condemns killings, urges Govt to negotiate with protesters

  • Condemns burning of PDP, APC Secretariats in Ondo

Immediate past National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West, Dr Eddy Olafeso, has condemned in strong terms the unprovoked attack on peaceful #EndSARS protesters on Tuesday at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos State.

Olafeso, a gubernatorial aspirant in the Ondo State governorship primaries, described the killings of defenceless Nigerians as callous and shameful.

In a statement by his Media Aide, Wándé Àjàyí, on Wednesday, the former Commissioner for Information in Ondo State said he supports the rights of the Nigerian citizens to a peaceful protest in agitating for police reform.

He, however, condemned the burning of the Secretariats of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and that of his party, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State by unknown thugs under the guise of the #EndSARS protest.

Given this, he called on the government to negotiate with the protesters and yield their demands for a better Nigeria.

“I condemn in strong terms the unprovoked attack on peaceful #EndSARS protesters on Tuesday at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos State. The killing of defenceless Nigerians by security operatives is callous and shameful.”

“It is an inalienable right of the Nigerian citizens to express their grievances through peaceful protests and should be tolerated. Using brute force to clamp down on them is shameful and do not augur well for the image of the nation. It is another new low that this APC administration has plunged us”

“While I support the rights of the Nigerian citizens to a peaceful protest in agitating for police reform, I also condemn the destruction of properties especially the burning of the Secretariats of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and that of my party, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State by thugs under the guise of the #EndSARS protest.”

“These miscreants are poised to distract the true intentions of the #EndSARS protesters. One wonders what the two attacks on the Secretariats of the PDP and the APC hope to achieve,” he said.
