A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Akoko Southwest Local Government Area of Ondo State, Hon. Ajisafe Adetope has accused the governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde of ruining the chances of the PDP ahead of Ondo State governorship election slated for October 10, 2020.
Ajisafe, a former ward chairman of the PDP in Ward 1 of Akoko South West LG, said in a statement on Saturday, that Governor Makinde covertly gave support for Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) with heavy monetisation and indictment of voters at the PDP primary which according to him, led to the emergence Jegede as the candidate of the PDP from a wrong zone of Ondo State.
Ajisafe wrote:
”It is true that the people of Ondo State want an alternative to the government of Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in Ondo State. The PDP, being the major opposition party would have been the only party that will benefit this agitation of the people of Ondo State but for the mistake of the party, orchestrated by the governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde, whose actions robbed on the political culture of the people of Ondo State, due to his lineage interest for Jegede, because his mother is from Akure, he covertly gave support for Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) with heavy monetisation and indictment of voters at the primary which culminated into vote-buying of N200,000 – N250,000 by Jegede and to his subsequent emergence as the candidate of the PDP from a wrong zone.”
”It is obvious that the candidacy of Jegede has crippled the PDP to the extent that the party has lost many of its strikers across the 18 local governments of Ondo State while those who didn’t leave the party, have vowed not to allow the emergence of Jegede from Ondo Central as the governor of Ondo State after the uninterrupted eight years of former Governor Segun Mimiko.”
”Information shows that Seyi Makinde met with Mimiko and many other opinion leaders before the PDP and they all advised him against picking a candidate from the Central. Even Mimiko regretted his action for initially fielding Jegede as the candidate of the PDP in 2016.”
”As it stands, the electorate of Ondo State are determined to vote a southern candidate fielded by the Zenith Labour Party ahead of the October 10, 2020, governorship election and that has been the reason many people are leaving their parties to join the ZLP to respect the power equation balance of Ondo State,” Ajisafe said.
