- As members of the PDP are waiting anxiously for Jegede also
All is not well with the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) over the choice of running mate for Agboola Ajayi, Ondo State deputy governor and the candidate of the party ahead of the governorship election slated for October 10, 2020.
Some yet to be resolved issues which already caused disagreements are: who becomes the deputy governorship candidate? from which senatorial district of Ondo State? and from which of the religions (Christianity or Islam), Starnews NG can report.
Starnews NG gathered that the ZLP has not resolved on any of the issues above even as the deadline for the replacement of names of governorship candidates and their deputies is slated for August 18, 2020, by the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC).
Starnews NG reports that the ZLP is confused maybe to go for a Christian/ Muslim ticket or a Christian/Christian ticket ahead of the poll.
It was also learnt that former governor Olusegun Mimiko and the National Leader of the ZLP, believed the ticket of the deputy governorship candidate should go to Ondo North Senatorial District especially from the Akoko axis to get sympathy votes being the only major ethnic nationality in the state without a governorship candidate or deputy.
While Mimiko believed he could win the election for his party at the Central Senatorial District especially with his political popularity in Ondo West and Ondo East if the ticket goes to the north, some other leaders believed that Ajayi running mate should be picked from Ondo Town or from Ilara town both in Ondo Central.
The party is currently considering the trio of Simi Odumbaku, Taofik Olawale and Kazeem Olanrewaju from Ondo North and Gboye Adegbenro from Ilara community from Ondo Central as running mate to Ajayi.
Starnews NG reports that the party has till tomorrow to decide because of the INEC deadline even as the members of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) in Ondo State are anxiously and waiting for Mr Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) to also name his running latest tomorrow.
The coming of the third force which is also known as the ZLP has thrown up more intrigues ahead of the October 10, 2020, governorship election in Ondo State, this Starnews NG can authoritatively report.
