The African Action Congress (AAC) has called for the immediate resignation of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa over the rising wave of killings and insecurity in Ondo State, particularly in Igbatoro, Akure.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, former AAC gubernatorial candidate, Kunle Wizeman Ajayi, condemned the spate of kidnappings and terrorist attacks in the state, accusing the governor of incompetence and failure to protect the people.
Ajayi, who described Aiyedatiwa as unfit to govern, alleged that the governor came into office without a clear manifesto and has shown no capacity to address security challenges.
“From the campaigns, we were clear that Lucky did not have what it takes to govern a resourceful state like Ondo. Worse still, his so-called manifesto was nothing but a collection of empty motivational speeches,” Ajayi stated.
He further criticised the governor and his aides for allegedly denying the security crisis, despite protesters presenting evidence of killings at Alagbaka.
“This is the same way they ignored the killings of over 30 youths in intra-cult and APC-related violence in Owo over the past three months,” he added.
Ajayi accused Aiyedatiwa of prioritising personal enrichment over governance, citing what he described as a “rogue budget” passed by the State House of Assembly. He called on Ondo residents to mount pressure on lawmakers to remove the governor or initiate the recall of Assembly members who fail to act.
He also linked the growing insecurity to the illegal exploitation of the state’s natural resources, warning that Ondo could suffer the same fate as parts of northern Nigeria.
“Those terrorising the state are not just after livestock but the resources beneath the ground. Aiyedatiwa has no clue about this because he cannot give what he does not have,” he claimed.
Expressing sympathy with affected residents, Ajayi urged the people to unite and resist the governor and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“A stitch in time saves nine. Ondo people must rise now before things get worse,” he said.
