Businessman Arrested for Allegedly Beating Wife to Death Over Ramadan Meal Dispute

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a businessman, Nuru Isah, for allegedly assaulting his 24-year-old wife, Wasila Abdullahi, leading to her death following a dispute over meal preparations for breaking the Ramadan fast.

According to a statement from the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, the tragic incident occurred on Saturday night in the Fadamam Mada area.

Investigations revealed that the 50-year-old trader, based at Bauchi Central Market, had a disagreement with his second wife regarding the handling of food ingredients and fruits for iftar. The argument escalated, and he allegedly flogged her with a cane until she collapsed.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect repeatedly struck his wife, causing her to lose consciousness inside their home. She was rushed to ATBU Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed her death,” Wakil stated.

Following the incident, police launched an investigation and arrested the suspect. The cane allegedly used in the assault was recovered as evidence, while the deceased’s body has been placed in the mortuary for an autopsy.

Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring justice, emphasizing that perpetrators of such crimes will be held accountable.
