Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has alleged that his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki, took office furniture, including a chair with the Nigerian Coat of Arms, before leaving office.
Okpebholo revealed that he had to personally purchase a new chair upon assuming office.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Okpebholo expressed shock that even basic office items were removed.
While he made it clear that he would not personally lead an investigation into Obaseki’s administration, he assured that the government system would look into financial mismanagement and recover any misused funds.
Okpebholo, who was declared governor on September 22, 2024, after defeating Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party, attributed his victory to the people’s demand for change.
He recalled that during his Senate election, he won despite facing challenges such as poor infrastructure, lack of basic amenities, and financial difficulties.
Regarding unity in Edo politics, Okpebholo claimed that the opposition had weakened.
He suggested that some members of the Peoples Democratic Party secretly voted for him because they were dissatisfied with Obaseki’s leadership.
He added that his administration is focused on development and accountability.
