Residents of Ijegun Egba in Ori Ade Local Government Area of Lagos State were thrown into panic following an attack by unidentified gunmen, which reportedly left two people dead and several others injured.
According to Afripost, The victims, identified as 40-year-old Gbenga Areagbo and Oladapo Olukoya, were allegedly killed when the assailants stormed the community on Tuesday, firing shots into the air and causing chaos. Witnesses said the attackers took the bodies of the deceased before fleeing the scene.
According to some residents, the gunmen appeared to have come from the riverine area, with reports indicating that a similar group had earlier raided the local jetty, robbing people of their belongings.
A resident, Kudus Fadiku, recounted an earlier attack linked to the same group. He stated that last Thursday, a man identified as Wasiu Ademola was assaulted and nearly abducted. However, he convinced the attackers that he was not a resident of the community and was released.
Another local, Kazeem, disclosed that the matter had been reported to the Satellite Town Police Division. However, just three days later, the assailants returned, targeting another section of the community. Witnesses alleged that they were searching for specific individuals, with one of them pointing out potential targets. When they failed to locate them, they resorted to robbing passersby.
Community leader Saeed Ayinde confirmed that the incident had also been reported to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Alagbon, Lagos. He described how the attackers arrived in multiple vehicles and motorcycles, wielding weapons.
“I was sitting with a friend, Lateef Arowolo, at Ade Oshodi Junction in Ijegun Egba when the group arrived. They approached a young man and asked if he was Lateef. When he denied it, they attacked him and later fled with the bodies through the jetty,” Ayinde explained.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident, with further proceedings scheduled for March 26, 2025.
