Anyanwu Seeks DSS Intervention Over PDP Governors’ Endorsement of Udeh-Okoye

Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has formally petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) over concerns regarding the endorsement of Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the party’s National Secretary by PDP governors. He claims that the endorsement, which comes amid an ongoing legal dispute, could threaten political stability and public peace.

According to Afripost, In a petition dated February 1, 2025, Anyanwu expressed his concerns to the DSS, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Supreme Court, and the Court of Appeal. He accused the governors of causing political instability by pushing to enforce a court ruling that remains under legal contest.

The petition references a recent communiqué from the PDP Governors Forum, which advised the National Working Committee (NWC) to implement the Enugu Court of Appeal’s ruling that upheld Udeh-Okoye’s nomination. However, Anyanwu pointed out that an appeal against the ruling has already been filed with the Supreme Court, and that the Court of Appeal had instructed all parties to maintain the status quo pending a final decision.

Anyanwu warned that enforcing the governors’ directive would violate the court’s order and potentially lead to significant political unrest.

Additionally, Anyanwu alleged that Udeh-Okoye and his supporters forcibly entered the PDP National Secretariat with hired thugs on January 29, 2025, disrupting a Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting. He described this act as unlawful and a direct challenge to both the judiciary and the rule of law.

He further urged security agencies to prevent any attempt by the NWC to implement the governors’ recommendation, arguing that doing so would undermine the ongoing legal proceedings. Until a final court ruling is issued, Anyanwu maintains that he remains the legally recognized National Secretary of the PDP.

The petition concluded with a call for all parties involved to respect the rule of law in order to avoid escalating tensions, and for security agencies to take the necessary steps to prevent any crisis and uphold the integrity of the ongoing court case.
