PDP BoT Moves to End Internal Crisis, Blasts APC Over Economic Hardship

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has waded into the internal crisis rocking the party, setting up a high-powered committee to resolve the dispute over the position of National Secretary.

At its 79th meeting held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, the BoT expressed serious concerns over the lingering disagreements within the National Working Committee (NWC). It urged all party leaders, organs, and stakeholders to prioritise unity and stability above personal or sectional interests.

To address the controversy surrounding the National Secretary’s position, which is currently before the courts, the BoT set up a committee led by Barr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, to engage the parties involved, assess the situation, and report back to the board for further action.

The Acting National Chairman reassured the BoT that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting would hold as scheduled in February 2025, to address pressing issues and reinforce party discipline and cohesion.

Beyond party affairs, the BoT strongly criticised the APC-led government over the worsening economic and security situation in the country. It blamed the hardship on what it described as ill-conceived and poorly implemented policies by the ruling party.

The board condemned the government’s insensitivity, citing multiple taxation, increasing fuel prices, rising electricity tariffs, and higher telecommunications charges, which it said were suffocating businesses and pushing Nigerians into deeper poverty.

It further accused the APC administration of lacking the competence and transparency needed to manage the country’s vast resources for the benefit of citizens. The BoT, therefore, demanded an immediate reversal of what it termed anti-people policies and called for urgent steps to revive the economy, create jobs, and support the productive sector.

Meanwhile, the board extended its condolences to Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on the loss of his elder brother, and Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, over the death of his stepmother.

Reaffirming its commitment to democracy and national progress, the BoT assured members and Nigerians that the PDP remains a formidable and united political force dedicated to the country’s development.
