The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to stage violent attacks using armed thugs disguised in PDP-branded clothing.
According to Afripost, this allegation comes in the wake of a previous incident at the Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, where individuals dressed in PDP-branded attire disrupted proceedings. The tribunal subsequently relocated its sessions to Abuja for security reasons.
In a statement on Monday, Chris Nehikhare, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Edo State, claimed that APC-sponsored thugs were planning sporadic shootings across the state to incite fear and create unrest.
Nehikhare strongly criticized the alleged actions, urging the APC to respect democratic principles and cease activities that could undermine peace in Edo State.
He also distanced the PDP from any involvement in violent acts, describing the alleged plan as a deliberate attempt by the APC to tarnish the PDP’s image and destabilize the state’s governance.
“We unequivocally condemn the APC’s actions and call on security agencies to identify and arrest those behind this plot,” the statement said.
The PDP further appealed to civil society organizations, the international community, and citizens to speak out against the alleged scheme, emphasizing the importance of protecting democracy and maintaining peace in Edo State.
