President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Kayode Opeifa as the new Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).
Dr. Opeifa, a former Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation under Governor Babatunde Fashola, played a key role in improving Lagos’ transportation system.
He was later appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari to address the persistent Apapa traffic congestion as vice-chairman of the Presidential Task Team.
He succeeds Ben Iloanusi, who served as acting MD after Fidet Okhiria completed his tenure in October 2024, Vanguard reports.
Opeifa’s leadership in Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory has been recognized for introducing effective policies and innovations in transportation.
With this appointment, he is expected to modernize the country’s railway system and enhance connectivity to promote economic growth.
