Dr. Cornelius Onuigbo, a urologist at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) in Nnewi, Anambra State, was reportedly abducted by armed men on Tuesday evening.

According to Vanguard, the incident occurred outside the doctor’s residence in Nnewi as he returned from work.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants blocked his path, forced him into their vehicle, and drove away.

One of the witnesses stated, “They intercepted him just as he was about to enter his home. After a brief discussion, they compelled him into their car and left. We’re unsure of their motive, and there has been no contact from the kidnappers so far. Efforts are ongoing to ensure his release.”

A staff member at the university, who requested anonymity, confirmed the incident. “We are aware of what happened and are working on the matter. That’s all I can disclose for now,” the source said.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga also confirmed the abduction, stating that security operatives are actively pursuing the case.

“We are aware of the situation and have deployed resources for the rescue operation. The Commissioner of Police, CP Obono Itam, has instructed officers to ensure his safe return,” Ikenga revealed.
