The Forum for Northeast Development (FND) has condemned Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, and Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to the late General Sani Abacha, for their opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies.
According to Politics Nigeria, in a statement signed by Chairman Alhaji Baba Mala Biu and Secretary Comrade Lawan Mohammed, the group expressed strong support for Tinubu’s economic reforms, particularly his tax policies, asserting that they will bring long-term benefits to the northern region.
The FND emphasized that these reforms are crucial for securing a sustainable future, with a special focus on the Northeast. The statement further underscored confidence in Vice President Kashim Shettima, stating, “With our son, Vice President Shettima, representing the Northeast, we are confident that our interests will be well-protected.”
The Forum also took issue with the criticisms of northern figures such as Bala Mohammed and Major Al-Mustapha, arguing that Tinubu’s policies, especially the tax reforms, are key to stabilizing the economy and fostering growth and development.
Urging residents of the Northeast and other northern regions to stay optimistic, the FND called for their support for the administration. “We urge the people to trust in the leadership of Tinubu and Shettima. These economic policies are foundational for sustainable development, and opposing them is counterproductive,” the statement read.
This came after recent remarks by Al-Mustapha, who accused President Tinubu of squandering his political capital, and Bala Mohammed, who raised concerns over the strain the reforms are placing on the North and the nation as a whole.
Despite these criticisms, the FND reiterated its call for unity: “We appeal to the people of the Northeast to rally behind President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima as they lead us toward greater development.”
