A final-year Computer Science student of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osura, identified as Prince, was tragically shot dead by gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday at his residence on Abuja Street, Ikot Osurua, in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.

According to PUNCH, Prince, who was awaiting mobilization for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), was attacked in his room in the presence of his girlfriend.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants gained entry into the compound at about 1 a.m. and headed straight to Prince’s room, where they shot him in the stomach. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“The gunmen didn’t rob anyone or take anything from the compound. They simply targeted him, shot him, and fled,” an anonymous source within the polytechnic community disclosed.

The source, who claimed to have seen Prince hours before the attack, recounted, “I met him yesterday around 4 p.m. with his girlfriend. They were both wearing facemasks, and we laughed about it. He was a well-known figure here, active in his church’s choir. It’s heartbreaking to lose him like this.”

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Akwa Ibom State, DSP Timfon John, suggested the attack might be linked to robbery or cult-related activities in the area.
