APC Chieftain Reveals Tinubu’s Failed Attempt to Prevent Obasa’s Impeachment

Fouad Oki, a notable member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu tried to resolve the leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly during the Christmas holiday.

According to Afripost, speaking on Channels Television on Monday, Oki revealed that Tinubu’s efforts to mediate the situation were unsuccessful due to the refusal of the now-removed Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, to reach a compromise.

Obasa was impeached on Monday by lawmakers over allegations of misconduct and financial mismanagement. He was replaced by his former deputy, Mojisola Meranda.

Oki explained that the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) had informed Tinubu about the brewing tensions in the Assembly during his visit to Lagos for the holiday.

“The issue had been escalating even before the president returned to Lagos. The GAC, in its wisdom, brought the matter to his attention,” Oki said.

“As a leader and father figure, the president convened a meeting to address the concerns raised by party elders. However, Obasa’s resistance to compromise ultimately contributed to his downfall.”

He further noted that Obasa’s impeachment was not a sudden decision but the result of prolonged tensions and his disregard for advice from party elders.
