Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo is set to hold a memorial service in honour of the late Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, this Sunday in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Reports from Politics Nigeria indicate that Carter, who died on 29 December 2024 at the age of 100, was a close ally and long-time friend of Obasanjo. Carter achieved the distinction of being the longest-living U.S. president, becoming the first to celebrate a centenary.
The service will take place at the Chapel of Christ, The Glorious King, situated within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library. It is scheduled to commence at 9:00 AM, with Rev. Israel Akanji, President of the Baptist Convention, delivering a sermon tailored for the occasion.
In a statement issued by Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo’s Special Assistant on Media, it was disclosed that the former president would also pay tribute to Carter through a special address titled “Jimmy Carter: The Departure of a Titan.”
