On Wednesday night, suspected cultists believed to be members of the Greenlanders group attacked Igbogene Community, a suburb of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, leaving three dead.
According to NAN, the armed assailants, around 10 in number and carrying dangerous weapons, reportedly invaded the area at approximately 8 p.m., causing chaos as residents fled for their safety.
A local, speaking anonymously, revealed that the first victim was the son of the former leader of the community’s vigilance group, who was shot near his home. The second victim, a non-cultist, was killed after he failed to disclose the whereabouts of his elder brother.
The attack is believed to have been fueled by an ongoing rivalry between two notorious cult groups, the Bobos and the Greenlanders, with the suspects allegedly being members of the community.
Youth President of Igbogene Community, Ezekiel Igbenivie, confirmed the incident and stated that while the attackers escaped, one of the victims is alive and currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
In response, the police, including the Operation Door Kapoor Division, Anti-Kidnapping Squad, and Rapid Response Team, arrived on the scene, stabilizing the situation.
Bayelsa State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Musa Mohammed, confirmed the identities of the victims as Donaldson Mison, 28; Addy Mulan, 27; and Greenboy Dudella, 29.
