In the 2025 budget, the Federal Government has set aside N27 billion for the benefits of retired leaders, including former presidents, vice presidents, military heads of state, and other retired senior government officials.
This fund will cover entitlements for figures such as former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, and Muhammadu Buhari, as well as ex-vice presidents Atiku Abubakar, Namadi Sambo, and Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
Other beneficiaries include retired military leaders like Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, former military president Ibrahim Babangida, and retired Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe.
The provision is part of a broader budget that includes pensions, gratuities, and retirement benefits for various government sectors, with a total allocation of N1.4 trillion.
Notably, N2.3 billion is dedicated to former presidents, vice presidents, and military heads, while retired professors are allocated N13.5 billion.
The budget also includes funds for civilian, military, and university pension schemes, alongside provisions for arrears and death benefits.
The government has also allocated N500 billion for student loans and social investment programs, including school feeding initiatives.
