FBI Director Steps Down

By Our Correspondent

FBI Director Christopher Wray has announced plans to resign in January, just before Donald Trump assumes the presidency.

Wray, who has led the bureau since 2017, stated that his decision is meant to ensure a smooth transition and to protect the agency from political conflicts.

Wray’s resignation comes three years before the end of his 10-year term. Trump, set to take office on January 20, 2025, has nominated Kash Patel, a staunch ally and former Pentagon official, as the next FBI director.

Patel has been a vocal critic of the FBI, accusing it of bias against Trump and supporting claims of a “deep state.”

Wray’s tenure was marked by tensions with Trump, particularly after the FBI’s controversial 2022 search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property, which led to allegations of mishandled classified documents.

While Trump has heavily criticized Wray’s leadership, others, including Attorney General Merrick Garland, commended Wray for his dedication and commitment to maintaining the bureau’s integrity.

Trump has voiced strong support for Patel, emphasizing his vision of restoring the FBI to align with his administration’s goals.
