The Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS) office was shut down on Thursday by its staff in protest against the non-payment of the newly approved N73,000 minimum wage.
Speaking with reporters, some staff revealed that they have been receiving a N55,000 wage since 2019, despite the state government’s recent approval of an increment.
The workers said their decision to stage the protest followed confirmation that the new minimum wage would not be implemented in their November 2024 salary, which remains unpaid as of now.
The protest has drawn attention to the grievances of the ODIRS staff, who insist that the delay in salary payment and failure to adopt the revised minimum wage are unacceptable.
