The Borno State Police Command has arrested two 18-year-olds, Ibrahim Abubako and Ibrahim Mohammed, for the theft of 25 mobile phones.
ASP Nahum Daso, the police spokesperson, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Wednesday. He explained that the suspects admitted to stealing the phones from individuals across various communities.
The teenagers were apprehended by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) during a stop-and-search operation on Damboa Road in Maiduguri on December 10, 2024, around 1:50 p.m. The suspects were riding in a tricycle when the stolen phones were discovered.
Further investigation revealed that the phones were taken from residents in communities along the Borno-Adamawa State border, including Mubi, Tashan Alade, Miringa, Kwaya Kusar, and Biu Local Government Area.
Daso confirmed that the suspects have confessed to the theft and will be prosecuted after the investigation is completed. Efforts are underway to return the recovered phones to their rightful owners.
The spokesperson also reassured the public of the police’s commitment to ensuring security during the festive season, urging residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
