Security has been tightened at the Ministry of Justice in Abuja as police deploy operatives ahead of the planned #FreeDeleFarotimi protest.
The demonstration is being organized to support human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi, who is facing legal action over alleged defamatory remarks against prominent Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Afe Babalola.
Farotimi, a vocal critic of Nigeria’s judicial system, is accused of making the statements in his book Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System.
The Take It Back Movement, which is spearheading the protest, has described the charges as unjust and vowed to proceed with rallies in Abuja, Lagos, Ekiti, London, and Toronto, despite police warnings.
Authorities have intensified their presence at strategic locations, particularly in Abuja, to manage potential unrest.
As of now, no protesters have arrived at the Ministry of Justice, but police remain on high alert, prepared to respond to any developments.
