Police arrest suspected killers of Aiyedatiwa’s campaign Director

By: Bayero Ade

Two suspects allegedly involved in the murder of Alaba Abe, the campaign director for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s reelection bid in Ondo State, have been apprehended by the police.

Abe, who coordinated the governor’s campaign activities in Akoko-South Local Government Area, was kidnapped and killed in April at his residence in Supare Akoko.

The Ondo State Police Command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit carried out the arrests. Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Funmilayo Odunlami disclosed the suspects’ identities as Mohammed Sheu, 21, and Abubakar Umar, 24.

According to Odunlami, the arrests followed a stop-and-search operation conducted on November 14, 2024, at Ikare Junction.

During the operation, officers intercepted a commercial bus heading to Owo and identified Sheu for further questioning. During the interrogation, a suspicious voice note on Sheu’s phone revealed communication with an accomplice, who reportedly confirmed receiving a message about a potential “kidnapping job.”

Further investigations revealed that Sheu confessed to several crimes, including kidnapping and robbery, across Kogi, Niger, and Ondo States, as well as the Akoko, Ifon, Ipele, and Owo areas. His confession led to the arrest of Umar, who also admitted to being involved in similar criminal activities as part of the same gang.

Odunlami assured the public that efforts were underway to apprehend other members of the criminal network.
