PDP Will Defeat APC in Oyo, Osun – Governor Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has confidently declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will outmaneuver the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2026 Osun governorship election and the 2027 Oyo governorship election.

Makinde made this statement on Wednesday while commissioning projects in Osogbo executed by Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State. He dismissed APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje’s claim that the party would capture Oyo and Osun as unrealistic and out of touch with political realities.

Dr. Ganduje had earlier expressed confidence in APC’s dominance in the South-West by 2027 following its recent victory in the Ondo governorship election. In response, Makinde remarked that such ambitions are misplaced. “The people of Osun have embraced Governor Adeleke’s leadership and will reject the APC in the next election,” Makinde stated.

The Oyo governor congratulated the people of Osun for electing Adeleke, highlighting his commitment to delivering on campaign promises and continuing projects from past administrations. He commended Adeleke for prioritizing the welfare of the people and implementing impactful policies to address economic challenges.

Makinde urged Osun voters to back Adeleke for a second term, emphasizing that PDP governors in the South-West are setting the standard for good governance through their pro-people policies. He also reassured PDP supporters of victory in the upcoming elections, stating, “We are resolute and ready to show the APC that the South-West remains PDP territory.”

Makinde further criticized the current federal structure in Nigeria, calling for reforms to achieve true federalism. He pledged to work alongside Adeleke to champion progressive governance and fight for a more equitable system.

In his remarks, Governor Adeleke expressed gratitude for Makinde’s support, describing it as a reflection of the strong relationship between Oyo and Osun states. Adeleke reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing inherited projects and delivering meaningful development to the people of Osun. He also acknowledged the contributions of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola to the state.

Both governors reiterated their determination to strengthen the PDP’s presence in the South-West, vowing to deliver leadership that prioritizes the needs of the people.
