JUST IN: Ebonyi Governor Suspends Commissioner for Alleged Misconduct

By Bayero Ade

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has indefinitely suspended Uchenna Igwe, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, over allegations of gross misconduct and dereliction of duty.

The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced during a briefing at the Government House in Abakaliki. Igwe’s suspension reportedly stems from his failure to implement a directive involving pension payments for local government staff by a council chairman.

This action adds to a growing list of suspensions under Governor Nwifuru’s leadership. In recent weeks, three other commissioners, responsible for housing and urban development, water resources, and health, have faced similar disciplinary measures.

Governor Nwifuru reiterated his administration’s commitment to accountability and the fulfillment of the “people’s charter of needs,” emphasizing that negligence and misconduct will not be tolerated in his government.
