A Federal High Court in Abuja has cleared over 50 individuals accused of terrorism-related activities and ties to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The ruling, delivered by Justice James Omotosho, concluded that the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence to support the claims.
The case, filed by the Inspector-General of Police, stemmed from an incident in December 2023, when the defendants were arrested in Umunze Village, Anambra, while allegedly traveling in a truck.
Authorities had claimed they were preparing for unlawful activities, citing items like caps with IPOB symbols and spiritual charms.
Despite these allegations, the judge ruled that the prosecution’s evidence did not establish a clear connection to terrorism, leading to the dismissal of all charges against the accused.
