Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has suspended his Senior Special Assistant on Print Media, Wale Ajetunmobi, following controversial statements he made regarding the 2020 #EndSARS protests.
The suspension was announced on Tuesday in a statement by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile. It follows a social media post by Ajetunmobi on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account, where he claimed that many of those involved in the burning of Television Continental (TVC) during the protests had been “hunted down and executed.”
In response, the Lagos State Government quickly distanced itself from Ajetunmobi’s comments, labeling them as a misrepresentation of the facts.
Akosile’s statement emphasized that the governor’s administration is committed to justice and upholding the rule of law, and it does not support extrajudicial actions.
“The Governor firmly condemns any form of extrajudicial punishment. This administration is committed to lawful and fair processes, and such actions do not align with our values,” the statement read.
In his post, Ajetunmobi stated, “The full story of people who burnt down TVC in 2020 will be told one day, with gory clips and images. One thing to note: the majority of them have been hunted down and executed.”
When questioned by another social media user about endorsing extrajudicial killings, Ajetunmobi defended his remarks, asserting, “Lol. You want to create a narrative in your head? Some of the people were chased by soldiers, and an exchange of fire occurred. Then arsonists were overpowered and killed. Others ran away. Is that extrajudicial killing to you?”
