The Ondo State Muslim Welfare Board has confirmed that 720 people from the state will travel to Saudi Arabia to take part in the 2025 Hajj.
The board revealed this on Tuesday in Akure while giving updates about the preparations.
The chairman of the board said Ondo State had earlier been given 670 slots, but the number increased to 720 because the state was able to fill its quota and even go beyond it.
He added that this progress was partly due to other states not being able to use their own slots, which allowed Ondo to get more.
In 2024, Ondo had 449 slots.
The increase this year shows the state’s ability to prepare well and mobilise more people for the holy trip.
According to the board, all 720 people preparing for the journey have completed their registration and are expected to leave Nigeria between May 11 and May 13.
As part of the preparations, the board announced that general screening and vaccination for the pilgrims will start on April 30.
A farewell event is scheduled for May 7.
The board also advised all pilgrims to get ready for the journey in both body and mind.
It said anyone with serious health issues will not be allowed to travel, and encouraged all travellers to follow the rules laid down for the exercise.
The board warned that taking part in the Hajj without proper understanding of its purpose often leads to misbehavior and missed spiritual benefits.
The board promised to ensure proper coordination so that the trip goes smoothly for all the intending pilgrims from Ondo.
