The Nigeria Customs Service, on Saturday, announced the graduation of 50 officers of its Junior Course 16 from the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College in Gwagwalada, Abuja.
It said the new graduates would provide additional support for revenue generation by the service, as well as join in enhancing the country’s border security.
The acting Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, in a statement issued by the agency in Abuja, said the training and graduation ceremony were part of efforts to refine the work efficiency of officers and men of the NCS.
He felicitated the graduands and expressed his commitment towards enhancing the professionalism of customs officers through training and capacity building.
He said, “I congratulate you for attaining this level of finishing your course, having shown your commitment and competence in dealing with customs rules.
I hereby urge you to make good use of what you have been taught and continue to be good ambassadors of the service as you leave this college,” Adewale stated.
According to the statement, “he urged them to maintain good relationships with members of their host communities, while contributing to revenue generation and enhancing border security.”
The customs boss presented awards and gifts to the best graduating officers at the ceremony, including Olawale Onigbanjo (overall best graduating student), Akinwale Fatoki (second best graduating student) and Olajumoke Olanbiwonnu (third best graduating student).
The Commandant of the college, Kingsley Egwu, told the graduands that the country awaits their positive contributions in the area of suppressing smuggling, generating revenue as well as facilitation of legitimate trade.
“I want to urge you to build up your competence and capacity in discharging your official duties as trained customs officers, having undergone this training at the college. I do not doubt that you are now well equipped and ready to serve the Nigeria Customs Service well,” Egwu stated.
