Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party has expressed his sorrow over the tragic incident that led to the death of 12 officers, a baby, and a driver from the Salvation Army Nigeria Territory.
Taking to Twitter, Starnews Nigeria reports that Peter Obi conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the Salvation Army and the families of the deceased officers.
He also extended his prayers for the swift recovery of the injured individuals and hoped that the departed souls would find eternal rest.
The officers had been returning from the Officers’ Councils Conference in Lagos when the incident occurred near the Ovia River close to Benin City, the capital of Edo State.
According to Major Daniel Ekong, the organization’s Public Relations Secretary said the tragic accident resulted in the unfortunate demise of approximately 12 officers, a baby, and a driver.
Several others sustained injuries of varying degrees and were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The accident was attributed to a Dangote truck that was allegedly speeding and colliding with the 18-seater bus carrying the clerics.
The clerics, who belong to the internationally renowned Salvation Army known for its humanitarian endeavours were travelling back to the southern part of the country after attending a 5-day Officers Council conference in Lagos.
