40-year-old man lands in remand over alleged murder

A 40-year-old man named Opeyemi Hammed was ordered to be held in a correctional facility by the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday, following an alleged murder charge.

Hammed, whose address was not disclosed, is currently facing trial for the alleged murder.

Magistrate Adebola Adeola declined the defendant’s plea, citing jurisdictional limitations.

Instead, she directed the prosecutor, Inspector Iyabo Oladoyin, to submit the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal counsel.

The case was then adjourned until May 30 for further proceedings.

Earlier, the prosecutor told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on April 2, at noon, at Akinyele area of Ibadan.

Oladoyin alleged that the defendant and his accomplices now at large, unlawfully caused the death of Ibrahim Malik, 28, who they tortured to death.

She said the offence contravened Sections 324 and 316 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
