Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, better known as 2Baba has been facing several backslashes he reconfirmed his separation from his wife, Annie.
It was reported on Monday that in a video posted on his Instagram story, 2Baba confirmed his separation from his wife, Annie Idibia, after earlier stating in a now-deleted post that his account was hacked.
“Hello to my beautiful people of all federations. Well, this thing I have to say is short but also long. I and Annie Macaulay have been separated for a while now, and currently filing for divorce.
“I would grant a press release soon to say my story. Not because it is anyone’s right to know about my personal life but because I love my people and I need them to know my innocence or offence. Stay blessed my people. I love you all”, he stated.
Soon after the singer posted another message where he stated that his page had been hacked.
It read, “My Instagram account has been hacked, efforts are being carried out to take back control. #onelove!”
In a later turn of events, 2Baba posted two videos clarifying the situation. He confirmed that his account had not been hacked, contradicting the previous claim.
“Yo, bless some more people. Nobody hacked my accounts. Na me yarn weytin I yarn.”
“Yo, my people man, nobody hacked my account. Nah me talk weytin I wan talk. You understand? I come in peace”, he stated in the video.
However, celebrities and social media users have slammed the action of the singer, while few rallied around him in support.
As reported by the Punch, TV personality, Toke Makinwa, in a post responding to the singer’s post confirming his split from Annie, stated, “This is wrong on all levels, you should be ashamed for bringing this here. Bring it on, if you think she is alone; let me tell you here that you will have to fight us all.”
In a post on her own Instagram account, Makinwa disclosed that women should take a stand against any wrongdoing, as it affects all females and shared that the issue shouldn’t be brought online, especially during a sensitive time.
“I’m not one for too much talk, but what is wrong is wrong. But as a woman, if you sit on the fence on this one, if it misses, it will touch your daughter or any female in your family. No one is innocent, and if you want to bring the media into it knowing what is happening, we will fight for her.
“Nobody is asking anybody to stay in a situation that’s not serving them any purpose anymore. By all means, leave if you must but why bring this online, at this very moment? We know what is going on behind closed doors. The world doesn’t know anything, it’s already been hectic with opinions flying around and when I say we will fight for her.
“I’m not talking about the general public, A handful of people know the truth and time will tell. Timing is everything. Empathy is everything. You constantly preach love, and you cannot add to the narrative that’s out there when you know what is happening behind closed doors”, she stated.
Nollywood actress Mary Remmy Njoku, shared on her Instagram page, “Bro, Annie has a family o! Your sisters-in-law are many, and we’ve stayed quiet out of respect for her tough choices, but since you’ve decided to humiliate her at her lowest, no wahala. It’s your choice. Just make sure she’s healthy and okay. Because when the time comes, we’ll have plenty of questions for you!.”
Nollywood actress, Uche Elendu expressed disappointment towards 2baba’s public announcement of his separation from Annie.
“No love, No accountability, No loyalty, No culture, No bond, No memory, No decorum, No respect, No empathy. I am so disappointed at this betrayal and insensitive public announcement from 2face. At a time like this, love does not count errors.
“The public does not need this information, you are too big for public validation. A woman that locked in on your mess in the public space, IDGAF what goes on behind us, but what we see, we believe. Men will stain your white!!! Most of them forget so fast. Annie left her life for the man she loved, but love has failed her. It is well”, she said.
Big Brother Naija star, Nina Ivy, also expressed her opinion saying, “I can never, ever, ever be with a man who seeks public validation-never. A man who would dare to use my lowest moments to taunt me on social media? Not. A man who wouldn’t prioritise or support my mental health? Never, ever. Emphasis on never.
“Ladies, you deserve peace and respect in a relationship. Being with someone who values your well-being, supports you privately and publicly, and nurtures your mental health is essential. A man who seeks public validation or uses your vulnerabilities against you shows a lack of emotional maturity and empathy. Protecting your peace and setting those boundaries is powerful.
“When the whole world is against me and the pressure from others is on the rise, I don’t care what issues we’ve had or are still having. As a human being, you should never use a person’s lowest moment to taunt them or add to their struggles. Period!”, she stated.
