In Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, a 25-year-old man identified as Elisha allegedly killed his girlfriend.
The motive behind this tragic incident, which reportedly occurred during rush hour on Tuesday, remains unknown.
The incident took place in a residential compound near the well-known Beaulah International Nursery and Primary Schools on Atiku Abubakar Way in the city. Neighbors described how the sudden tragedy unfolded around 7:00 AM, catching residents off guard as they were heading to work or dropping off children at school. A crowd of sympathizers gathered at the scene, causing traffic congestion.
Upon visiting the location, it was observed that both the victim’s body and the suspected killer had been taken to the police headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia. Armed policemen were present, attempting to manage the situation.
According to an anonymous source, the unfortunate event occurred when the suspect, who resides in the compound, returned home with his girlfriend, believed to be a nurse. Shortly after entering the room, sounds of a scuffle ensued, indicating a violent altercation between the two.
According to her, “An aged woman in the compound, on hearing the shouts, went and advised the boy to stop the beating, but he refused.
“Since we couldn’t do anything, we called the father, who lived away from the area, to come and control the situation.
“The boy, on sighting the father in the compound, jammed the door against them, and they raised the alarm to invite other people for rescue.
She further said, “Before others could arrive at the compound, the boy had already killed the girl, shredded her into pieces, and went into hiding in the ceiling of the room, where the police came to bring him down for arrest.”.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Timfon John, has confirmed the incident, saying that the police have arrested the suspect, who is undergoing interrogation and investigation.
