Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has denied reports suggesting that the LP has reached a merger agreement with any opposition party.
According to Vanguard, in a statement made in Abuja, Obi addressed circulating rumors about potential merger discussions with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). While not ruling out the possibility of future talks, he emphasized, “There is no agreement yet.”
Obi called for national unity, urging Nigerians to set aside political differences and work together to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which he accused of mismanaging the country’s resources.
On the security situation in Nigeria, Obi expressed grave concern over escalating violence, including banditry, terrorism, and kidnappings. He condemned the loss of innocent lives and the ongoing crisis.
The former governor also critiqued the current administration’s stance on corruption, claiming that corruption remains rampant despite official rhetoric.
He further noted the rising cost of governance, which he believes has contributed to the nation’s growing public debt, pointing to the misuse of public funds, including frequent foreign travels by government officials in 2024.
