2027: Lagos Speaker Obasa Declares for Governorship, to Face Seyi Tinubu, Others

The political atmosphere in Lagos State is already gaining momentum as discussions around Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s successor intensify ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Key names emerging as potential candidates include Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, Lagos East Senator Tokunbo Abiru, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Adding to the lineup, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has reportedly entered the race. According to ThisDay, Obasa’s candidacy brings significant grassroots influence and political experience to the contest.

“Obasa, the longest-serving Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has built a strong connection with local communities. His resilience in navigating political challenges and his alignment with the powerful Mandate Group make him a strong contender,” the report highlighted.

The analysis further pointed out that while Abiru’s corporate background and Gbajabiamila’s national recognition add variety to the mix, their grassroots support may not match that of Hamzat or Obasa, making the latter two the leading figures in the race.

As the countdown to 2027 continues, the contest for Lagos State’s governorship is shaping up to be a high-stakes battle among some of the most influential political figures in the state.

Obasa should go back to Abeokuta Ogun State and Contest. Hamsat too should go to Afọwọwa Ogun State to Contest enough of Lagos being taken for fool. We have Hakeem Muri-Okunọla, Femi Gbajabiamila, Muiz Banirẹ etc that we are Considering as Governor in 2027
