2027: Lagos PDP Will Support Seyi Tinubu for Governor, Youth Leaders Assert

By: Bayero Ade

The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL) has expressed confidence that Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will emerge as a unifying candidate for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.

At a press conference held in Owerri, CONYL President General, Goodluck Ibem, emphasized that Seyi Tinubu has the leadership qualities necessary to gain widespread support, including from the Lagos State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Ibem pointed to Lagosians’ longstanding support for President Tinubu and his legacy, rejecting criticisms surrounding Seyi Tinubu’s potential candidacy. He credited President Tinubu’s record of transformative governance and democratic values for shaping his son’s readiness for leadership.

In response to comments from the Lagos State PDP dismissing the prospect of Seyi Tinubu running for governor as “a family affair,” Ibem expressed confidence that both the PDP and other political parties would support Seyi if he chooses to run.

“We want to remind the PDP that the people of Lagos have always supported President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as evidenced by their votes for him and his party, the Alliance for Democracy (AD), in 1999,” Ibem stated.

“The people of Lagos rejected the PDP and embraced Tinubu’s leadership and vision. The PDP has never won the Lagos governorship election, even when it controlled the federal government, which underscores Lagosians’ resistance to imposition and their belief in true democracy.”

Ibem concluded by emphasizing that true leadership is proven through transformational performance, noting that President Tinubu has shown through his governance that he serves the people of Lagos, rather than seeking personal gain, contrary to claims made by the Lagos PDP.
