The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on Tuesday gave reasons why it didn’t challenge the victory of President Bola Tinubu at the ongoing Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT).
Bishop Isaac Idahosa, the vice-presidential candidate of the party said it was a decision of the party not to go to court.
Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Peter Obi, candidate of the Labour Party (LP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) are currently challenging the declaration of Tinubu as the winner of the presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Idahosa, who spoke while featuring as a guest on Channels Television programme ‘Sunrise Daily’ which was monitored by QUEST TIMES also recalled that the Kwankwasiyya movement did not challenge the outcome of the 2019 governorship election in Kano state.
“We never went to court from inception. We just chose not to go to court. You remember when we lost in Kano in 2019, we never had to go to court. Even this time around, we just choose not to go. It was a decision made not to go to court”.
On the party’s stance on the Government of National Unity which was proposed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Idahosa said unlike other political parties, the NNPP is not keen on participating in the government.
He however said as a friend to the president, Kwankwaso will continue to share ideas with the president on moving the nation forward.
“Like other parties, we’ve got equal access to government but we don’t have equal crave engaging the government. I’m sure that you are aware that my principal, Dr. Kwankwaso, and His Excellency had been longtime friends as 1999 set of governors, they’ve been on there. Even last week Thursday, they were together, discussing how to ensure national progress”.
