Some travellers of two separate commercial vehicles and their drivers have been reportedly abducted by unknown gunmen along Akure- Ikere road.
The gunmen were reported to have swooped on the travellers’ vehicles on Tuesday while navigating through the bad portions of the road.
According to various sources, the passengers were in two vehicles, an 18-seater bus and the other a 9-seater Toyota Previa owned by one Deji, a former Chairman of Tosin Aluko Park, Ado Ekiti branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NUTRW).
Sources said they were heading towards Ado Ekiti yesterday, before they were ambushed at the bad spots on the route and some of the occupants of the vehicles were taken away including their drivers.
This incident is coming barely a week after the Nigerian Army launched an Anti Kidnapping drone to cover both Ondo and Ekiti.
As at the time of this report, the actual figure of those involved has not been ascertained.
When contacted on telephone, one of the executives of a Drivers Union in Akure who spoke under the condition of the anonymity confirmed the incident.
Also the leadership of NURTW in Ekiti state also confirmed that the vehicle involved was known to be that of a driver called Baba Ikere but declined further comment.
