The Nigeria Immigration Service Airport Command, Lagos, has intercepted nine girls who were to be trafficked through the airport to Lebanon, Cairo, Dubai, and India on Ethiopian, Peace, Egypt and East Airlines, respectively.
The service said the girls were prevented from departing the country after they failed to respond to questions about the purpose of their trip.
The NIS spokesman, DCI Sunday James, explained in a statement on Saturday that four of the victims claimed that they were going to take up employment without knowing their employers or the nature of the job.
It said, “The shady journey was organized by agents who were exploiting their innocence and ignorance. Two other girls claimed they were going for a visit, but later confessed they were going for hustle in Dubai while the other two claimed they were going to India for yellow fever treatment. The girls later admitted that they were going to hustle.”
Considering that the girls had no credible mission for embarking on the failed journey, they were refused departure to save their lives and dignity,” the NIS noted.
The Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede admonished parents to be wary of juicy offers to their children in foreign countries which he said could end in exploitation or death.
Babandede stated, “The operatives at the various entry and exit points will never permit them to depart and if they attempt to beat security, they will be arrested.”
